  • Ask your AI how certain it is first

If you translate into a lesser-known language or about something sensitive, I would ask your AI how certain it is first, and then translate it back with a second AI.

When you let AI translate a text, you almost always get a fluent translation back. And because of that, you do not really see if it is actually correct. We talked about that in a workshop. A participant from the care sector told us that she works with languages every day. Those include languages from the Horn of Africa, and you do not easily find a colleague there who can just read along. She had never used AI for that before. She thought that the knowledge of such a language would be limited. That might well be, but I told her that you can also just ask your AI about that.

  • AI is not Google: you are the answer machine

Anyone who uses AI as a search engine gets confident nonsense and thinks less for themselves. Anyone who uses AI as a thinking partner becomes sharper. The difference lies in the direction.

'If you use AI in a stupid way, it makes you stupider. If you use it in a smart way, it makes you smarter.' I say this in almost every workshop, and usually people laugh. Then it goes quiet, because everyone recognises themselves in the first half of that sentence.

    The search engine habit

Most people have been trained by search engines for twenty years. You type a question, you get an answer, you move on. It makes sense that we use AI in the same way. The window looks like that too: a box, a question, an answer.
